Sparrow paintings by Lea Alexander

Sparrow paintings by Lea Alexander

They all started out as landscapes inspired by the verse “You brought me to a spacious place” Psalm 18 v 19

Things have changed after the pandemic and priorities are being rearranged.  It feels like a spacious place where anything we dream could begin to form.

This made me draw large open skies like I see every day in Cheshire.  But there was something missing and intimidating about these open spaces, a lack of definition and direction.

It was then I observed the sparrows.  So small, soft and vulnerable, but they sored carefree through a massive sky.  It was God’s beautiful way of showing me how to deal with this new open season.

The awe inspiring possibilities of our future is pared with the creators intimate care of our daily lives.  And we can soar carefree in His tending.

Whenever I’m tempted to be overwhelmed by the responsibilities and possibilities of life I look at the sparrows outside my living room window, or in these paintings and I find rest in God’s care.  Joy in the sparrow’s security.  Relief in their carefree provision.
